Ash Wednesday Services of Ashes, Asperges and Holy Communion will take place on Wednesday, February 18th at 12:15 and 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Chapel, 303 Sand Creek Road, Colonie.
The optional imposition of ashes created from the palm fronds of the previous year’s Palm Sunday service is a traditional and reflective symbol of our human createdness and our need for God’s presence in our lives. As somber a symbol as the ashes are, the rite of asperges — or sprinkling the people with droplets of water — is a powerful reminder that we are redeemed by God’s love in the waters of baptism.
In addition to the imposition of ashes and rite of asperges, the service will include holy communion, in which all persons are invited to partake, a thoughtful meditation and beautiful music. Please join us for either service. Parking is plentiful and the service is open to the public.
